This book was written by many famous and important sculpture historians, sculptors, and photographers. They also worked with local experts and relative departments from Datong. After one year’s intensive work, the scholars were able to organize, categorize, and photograph all the sculptures from Datong district in different periods. According to their geographical distributions and art styles, this book groups them into four categories: Yungang Grotto sculpture, sculpture from temples, sculpture from architectures, and sculpture from museums. By selecting the best pieces, we decided to publish this illustrated catalogue, Datong Sculpture Collection.
